Local Place Plan submission
Following the statutory consultation, we submitted the finalised Strathdearn Local Place Plan to The Highland Council on 29 June 2026 for validation checking against the local place plan requirements.
We are currently awaiting the outcome of the Council’s check of the Strathdearn Local Place Plan.
When the Local Place Plan is registered, it will be added to the Council’s Local Place Plan register.
What is a Local Place Plan
A Local Place Plan is a type of community-led plan introduced by the Scottish Government to encourage community involvement in planning.
A key part of a Local Place Plan is the creation of proposals for the development or use of land and buildings. The Highland Council’s flow chart and guidance describe the process that we followed.
Registered Local Place Plans can be used as a material consideration in local planning applications, to guide the development or use of local land and buildings, and to support funding applications.
A new community-led plan
We have prepared the first Local Place Plan for the Strathdearn area.
We were assisted by Strathdearn Community Developments and the Strathdearn Community Charitable Trust, and we invited the whole community to be involved!
A combined plan
We carried out our preparations in combination with refreshing the Strathdearn Community Action Plan 2022-2027 to produce a new, single Plan called the Strathdearn Local Place Plan.
Local Place Plans and Community Action Plans have similarities and differences, as shown by the Scottish Community Development Centre.
Our main aim when preparing the new Plan was to reflect the needs and wishes of our local community.
1st stage preparations
Following our Local Place Plan awareness-raising in November and December 2025, we carried out our 1st stage preparations for the new, community-led Plan for Strathdearn.
In February 2026, every household in Strathdearn received a Local Place Plan Information Leaflet, which included, importantly, the ways in which the community could find out more and have their say!
During February 2026, we launched three surveys for Community, Businesses, Landowners, and offered six drop-in sessions, for the community to view information, ask questions, and make comments.
In March to April 2026, we consulted with local community groups, and carried out Business and Landowner focus groups.
To support the 1st stage preparations, we prepared a Background Report.
2nd stage preparations
The 2nd stage preparations for our Local Place Plan started in April 2026.
We shared initial findings from the 1st stage preparations at the Strathdearn Community Council meeting on 14 April 2026, in regards to what the community appreciated about, and their aspirations for, their local area.
We carried out the statutory consultation for the Proposed Strathdearn Local Place Plan from 12 May to 12 June 2026.
We aimed to submit our Finalised Local Place Plan to The Highland Council at the end of June 2026.
